LAN free backup using backup exec 2010 R2

I have exchange server in cluster & want to take the exchange backup throgh SAN to VTL using backup exec 2010 R2.

 

I want to know the licence details for this & steps to carry out this..

    That I can't tell you. This is what you would do though:

    1. In order to get a SAN-based backup, you need to load the SAN SSO license on your media server. Then run the wizard to configure this.

    2. You need 2 x Backup Exec for Windows Server licenses (media server licenses) for each of the Exchange servers, and 2 x Agent for Microsoft Exchange licenses to allow you to backup the Information Store.

    3. You then need to zone the VTL for each of the Exchange cluster nodes. I can't tell you how to do this as I don't know what type of switches you have. But you need to do this.

    4. Run the SAN SSO wizard on the cluster nodes which allows them to use the VTL which is controlled by the media server.

    Hi,

     

    If you could load BE on the cluster, you'd need 2 x media server licenses, and the 2 x Database licenses. Once done, you'd simply zone your VTL and your 2 cluster nodes. This allows the cluster nodes to see the SAN-attached storage, and you're good-to-go. Obviously your cluster nodes need access to the SAN.

    If you have BE on another server, using my steps above is the only way to get a LAN-free backup.

    You mean i required one Backup server & one media server right ?

    and VTL need to zone with exchange server right ?

    is there any licence required for VTL configuration ?

    How the backup server will communicate exchange server, any zone required ?

    Also please note the my BE server not in cluster, client(exchange) server is in cluster.

    No, you don't necessarily need a media server license. Your Exchange server is active/passive and fails over. BE will run on the active node, and if the cluster fails over, it will too. Check the TN on how to install BE onto a cluster.

    If you have more than 1 drive in your VTL and want BE to target these for instance, then you need this license: Virtual Tape Library Unlimited Drive Option.

    My exchange sever is in Active/passive cluster.

    So for one drive VTL not required any licences right ?

    Can you pls share the configuratino document, it' will be helpfull for me..

    I've media server, backup server, VTL and two exchange(client server) connected in SAN.(throgh SAN switch)

    But not zoned, required topology for zoning, which one to which one like info.

    Thanks for your update..

    So media server & client server will communicate throgh LAN only right  ? bcz we are zoning only VTL & client server.
