License question

Hi,
I have Backup Exec 12.0 and want to upgrade to latest version (2012).

I have:

- 1 BE server (on Windows 2008)
- 1 file server (on Windows 2003)
- 2 SQL 2000 (on Windows 2003)
- 1 SQL 2008 (on Windows 2003)
- 1 Sharepoint servers (on Windows 2008)
- 1 Exchange 2010 server (on Windows 2008)
- 1 robotic library (with only one drive)

Here is my atual licenses:

Which licenses must I upgrade and which must I buy extra?
Do I need a separate agent license for each server (if I have few file servers, do I must buy few licenses or only one for all file servers)?
When I backup exchange and some files from the same server, do I need two agent licenses? Separate for exchange and separate for Windows Systems?

  • Hi,

If all those servers will be backed up, your licenses look as follows:

    1 x Media server license
    3 x SQL agent licenses
    1 x Exchange agent
    1 x SharePoint agent
1 x RAWS agent for the file server

The application agents cover the RAWS agent licenses, so no need for additional RAWS agents for the application servers.

So if you have an Exchange license for example, it allows you to back up Exchange + any files on the server.

You can read the licensing guide below:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH125462

it's for BE 2010 but it relates to BE 2012 as well.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks Craig.

    I have few more questions:
    1. do I need some license for robotic library? In BE 12 was Library Expansion Option.
    2. do I need Advanced Open File Option ?
    3. do I need an agent for Active Direcotry? (I forgot  - I have one).
    4. where can I find hardware compatibility list for BE 2012?

  • 1) LEO is required for every addiional tape drive in the library.

    2) AOFO is included in the core product license.

    3) Active Directory Recovery Agent (ADRA) is required to perform GRT restore of AD objects.

    4) http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH175582

  • Thanks!

    hmmm.....

My library doesn`t support NDMP and ESO.

    What exactly are the features?
