Need advice on a Disaster Recovery project

I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with, because I sure can't figure it out.  I need to pull off an old backup set from a NAS that I retired back in January.  I ran that backup system on BackupExec 9.1 on NetWare 6.5 SP 6 backing up daily backups to a NAS setup as back-up-to-disk storage.  Due to "upgrades" beyond my control this system has been retired and I'm now running POS backup software (that shall remain nameless) to tape.  Regardless, I am now confronted with having to pull files off of the old system for a user who lost them long ago.  These files were lost during the transition from NetWare to AD and the person who lost them had been on maternity leave for a few weeks and didn't notice that they were gone until a few days ago.  She's rather emotional about it, I'm afraid!  I believe they are still present on the NAS, backed up months ago.  The NAS still has its original file structure and has files present on it.

What I've done so far is this:

1. 
   Built up and licensed a NetWare 6.5 server in its own tree.
2. Reinstalled version 9.1 of BackupExec and licensed it.
3. Attached the old NAS (which I still had and had not erased any of the HD's).
4. Was able to get Netware to see both the NAS via the SCSI adapter and the files on the NAS.  NetWare even mounts the NAS's file structure as the original volume name when booting up.
5. The catalogs are present, or at least files are.  They are a large collection of files named similar to this:  VL00013b.b2d
6. I created a b2d folder on the NAS and moved the files into this folder, but the system still will not see them.  Inventory jobs end normally, but with no effect.  Catalog job end in an erro stating that the Media is Blank.

What I don't know how to do is to recover the files to the point where 9.1 recognized the media and the files, and then start a restore job.  Can anyone point me to specific information in the manuals or on the forums that might help me?
