NEED tapeinst.exe

Hi have searched hi and low for the tapeinst.exe utility. It is missing from my main Backup folder. Have been given a link http://entsupport.symantec.com/rd/bews-downloads.htm but provided no direct link to the download .... please help

  • Verbatim from the Admin Guide -

Symantec kernel-mode tape drivers and tapeinst.exe are no longer installed if Backup Exec 2014 is installed on Windows Server 2012 and later.

If the Backup Exec server runs on Windows Server 2012 or later, the Configure Storage wizard option Install tape device drivers is not available, and tapeinst.exe is not available from the default Backup Exec installation location.

  • Run a repair of Backup Exec 2014 and see if it reinstalls it.

Your alternative is to check the installation ISO and see if you can pull it from there.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks CraigV I restarted server back exec now sees my tape drive but get the error `Ready, No backup exec servers are avaliable` (IN THE JOB STATUS)   :(

  • 2 TNs to read up on troubleshooting this error:

Is the tape drive online in Backup Exec's device tab?

    Thanks!

  • Make sure that the tape library and tape drive is functioning correctly in the Windows Device Manager.  The tape library, if there is one, should appear as an Unknown Medium Changer with a Microsoft driver and the tape drive should have a Symantec driver.

If the problem persists, run the manufacturer's diagnostics utility against the tape library and tape drive.  Make sure you select the write test and that you have stopped all the BE services beforehand.
