OFO: Initialization failure on: "Shadow?Copy?Components

We are currently running Backup Exec 9.1 on a Windows 2003 server SP1

Whenever we run the backup on a certain server, the job fails with the following error:

OFO: Initialization failure on: "\\server_name\Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
OFO: Snapshot error (0xfffffed1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.

When i run the VSSADMIN LIST WRITERS command on the following server we recieve the following results:

Allthough there are no errors some are showing WAITING FOR COMPLETION

On the server in question both the MICROSOFT SOFTWARE SHADOW COPY PROVIDER and the VOLUME SHADOW COPY service are both running ok.

I have already referred to Veritas articles 261993 and 265927 without any success so any other ideas would be appreciated.
  • Hello,

Do you get this error while running remote backups? Have you installed the Advanced open file option? Refer to the following technote:

  • Hi Neil,

Could you try running a backup of the system state from the ntbackup utility of windows to isolate the issue?

Would it also be possible to reapply the service pack 1 for windows 2003?

Please keep us updated on the issue!

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

Run the sgmon before running the backup job.

    How to create SGMON.LOG
