question about restoring BE

I have backup exec set to backup to an shared folder on another computer. But with multiple backups over a few weeks I have many files. for every backup I have a .BKF file which is the large data I suppose because it is huge. and I have a IMG folder. Do ia need both for a restore ?. Can I just restore the . BKF file. Please clear this up for me. Thanks
  • The BKF files and the IMG folders with their complete contents will be enough to recover in case of disaster.

  • Hello,

As I understand, You are targetting a single B2D foler located on a remote server for multiple jobs. The IMG folder is for Exchange Backups.

You do not need to restore the BKF files and then restore the data. The .BKF siles are created by Backup Exec and we will be able to restore data from them.

    Hope this helps...
  • The IMG folder is created for those backups that have the Granular Restore Technology (GRT) enabled. This could be Exchange, Active Directory or Sharepoint. And yes - you will need the IMG files for the restore of the above mentioned technologies.

If you feel that you have too much data, check the following:
    * In Tools/Options/Media Management, make sure that you have the option "Overwrite recycled media before overwriting scratch media" selected.
    * Check the Media Set properties in the Backup Exec Media tab. If you don't want that much data, you may want to reduce the "Overwrite Protection" settings on you media set.
    Hope this helps

  • Hi, thanks for your reples, so all I need to make an off site copy is the BKF file and the IMG file is that right?

  • Hello,

No, thats not the right method....If you make a copy of the BKF file for OFFSITE, and wants to restore data from the OFFSITE backup, you will have to copy all the files to the Original B2D location, run an inventory and Catalogs....Situation may happen that same file names already present at the B2D location which wont allow you to copy the BKF file.

    Solution:
Run a Duplicate job of the ORIGINAL job on the TAPE OR USB Drive and take the TAPE/USB Drive OFFSITE, you will be able to restore data in a single restore job without any issues.....

    Hope this helps...
