question about Sharepoint Agent

We are just getting ready to implement a MOSS 2007 server. 

 

Due to our DR needs, we are going to be taking snapshots of the server and those are going to be sent to the off site location. 

 

I have been told, that the last server that ran a specified agent (SQL from the sounds of it) had issues with the snapshot software causing the server to blue screen.  They determined at the time that the issue was with Backup Exec using the VSS writer when creating its backup.

 

Can anyone confirm that the Sharepoint Agent for 11d runs using Microsoft VSS?  I believe it does and that is the only option, however others are thinking that it may run on something else.

 

Sorry for the stupid question, but this is my first dealing with Sharepoint and backups.
