Redirecting a restore

We have two domains in our forest. The Backup Exec server and the client server from which the data was originally backed up are members of the child domain. The server I'm trying to redirect the restore to is a member of the parent domain of the forest. When I click the Browse button from the Restore Wizard I am unable to see any servers in the parent domain. Is this possible?

Thanks!

  • BE does not scan servers from another domain.  You would have to manually add the other domain's servers to the media server using its IP address.  After that, push out the remote agent to the server. Make sure that the two domains trust each other.

  • Has the domain admin account of the other domain been added to Backup Exec?  Check that your date range is correct.  Also, has an inventory and catalog been ran?

  • The admin account of the other domain has been added to BE but I see the type listed as "Restricted" and it fails the access test.

    Yes I did run a inventory/catalog job.

  • ...change that to a Common account and try again.

    Thanks!

  • Validate the password of the Backup Exec service account by readding it.  Are the two domains on the same network and not blocked by a firewall ( can you open port 1000)?  Verify the remote agent is running on the remote server and that it is the same version as on the media server.

check out the following to make sure the remote agent is publishing to the media server. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65151

  • Thanks for the help.

Can you advise how to manually add the other domain's server using its IP address?

  • Sorry about that - I figured it out and it worked well - thanks so much!
