Remove obsolete resource(Hyper-V) from server

Hi

My customer has an issues with a former hyper-V host in backup exec

This server has in a short period of time been running HyperV, the Hyper-V role has been removed and all Hyper-V Services are deletede but Backup Exec still presents the server as a Hyper-V host and requieres a licens.

How can i get BE to detect ressources again on this server?

  • Check the selection list and remove the server if it shows up.

  • Hi CraigV

HyperV is not selectable anymore as the Role has been removed from hyperv2, i have a feeling that BE dosn't update the resource list that the hyperv host has now and just shows old information.

  • ...do you still have other Hyper-V servers in the environment?

    Thanks!

  • I could be that there are still backup sets for the host which contains references to the obsolete VM's.  Until these backup sets are deleted, the server needs to be listed as a host in case you want to restore the VHD's.

  • Hi CraigV

There are no other Hyper-V hosts in my test setup where the pictures are from, though there are in my customers environment

PS: In my test environment I did the following to test the case.

Added my hyper-v host to the domain

    created an empty vm

added backup exec agent to the hyper-v host

    removed the Hyper-V role

    removed the remaining HyperV services

BE server and Hyper-V host has been restartet several times

I havent done any backups of the VM in the Hyper-V host

I then did a file backup to see if that would force a detection of resources, but it didnt

  • Just removed the hyperv host and added it again that did the trick :-)

At my customers site, the former Hyper-V host is also the Backup Exec Server (Its not my installation :-) )

Do I need to do a reinstall and recover the database? Or would that just set me back in the same situation?
