restore each job from each tape to different folders

restore.png

I have a couple of tapes that i need to restore all the jobs to different foldes, this is part of a tape migration. (see above example).  Basically I want to dump the Whole tape to disk and then back it up again with newer tapes.

How can I restore each JOB to different folders without over writing the data?

ie;

backup of C @7/10/2009 10:23:48PM goes to folder #1
backup of C @7/10/2009 7:05:15PM goes to folder #2

and so on.....

 or do I have to do a restore job for each backup and manually select/create a folder for each of them?

Thx

Matt.

  • You'll have to create a separate restore job with the option of redirecting to a new (separate) folder each time.

    Egs

    Restore job 1 - backup of C @7/10/2009 10:23:48PM goes to folder #1
    Restore job 2 - backup of C @7/10/2009 7:05:15PM goes to folder #2

  • Thx. That is what I have been doing, I was hoping that there was a simple way of doing it, espically if you have a large tape mirgration.

    Thx again.

    Matt.

  • Another way is to duplicate the tape backup sets onto disk and them duplicate them onto to new tapes. This way you avoid having to use folders and the process is faster
  • Will look into it, thx for the idea. I assume the only problem in doing that is that you don't fill the new tapes like you would if backing up all the folders.
