Restoring BEDB.bak

What is the proper procedure for restoring a BEDB.bak file (backup exec database)?  I have some bedb.bak files from another media server that I would like to restore.  I loaded a test environment of Backup Exec, placed BEDB.bak in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data, ran BEUtility, selected recover database, and to drop the exiting table and reload from recovered data.  I assume this will recover from the BEDB.bak file I placed in the directory.

The procedure ends with errors and doesn't work.  The BEDB.bak file is from a 2010 R2 server and my test is 2010 R3 SP1.  The only other difference is that the media server names are different.

  • I was able to get this working.  Here is what I did:

    1. On my working Backup Exec server, stop all backup exec services and grab a copy of these two folders: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data and C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Catalogs
    2. On the new Backup Exec server, stop all Backup Exec services, and replace the Data/Catalog folders you copied from the previous server.
    3. Start the services back up once the copy is finished.

The configuration information should then be restored.  This worked fine on a test server with a completely different domain.

  • Yes, the procedure is right , reference KB - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH65053

Version has to be the same, i.e. if you want to import a 2010 R2 bedb.bak, then the media server should be R2 as well

  • Thanks.  I'll reinstall my test environment using 2010 R2.  I'll mark your post as the solution if it works fine.

  • Nope, this is still failing.  I get "Error: The database backup file does not exist" even though bedb.bak has been placed in the directory.

  • Is the server name same or different ? Try with the same name...

  • Different Name.  I have a working backup exec server with the same name, and I want to be sure I recover the hours of time spent into setting jobs and various configuration.

  • Maybe you should try these procedures
