Restoring oracle 9i to another server which has oracle 10g

Hello

We are using BE2012 and we are backing up oracle 9i on linux5.4. Just wanted to check if we can restore this data to another linux server which has newly installed oracle 10g on linux5.4.

If I get a technical article that will be helpful to show this to our management.

  • Nopes, not possible unless you restore to existing 9i and then export to 10g.

Alternatively, you can restore 9i database to 10g host and then you'll have to upgrade the database.

Either ways, there isn't a simple in-place restore.

Oracle has an official doc for this with ID 369644.1

  • BE uses RMAN to backup and restore Oracle databases.  I think you should check with Oracle whether you can restore 9i data to 10g.  If Oracle says no, then that's it.
