Solved

Selection lists shows only All resources.

After following instructions for migrating my selection lists from my old server to my new one, everything seemed to be fine.

But after a while I noticed that when I edit existing selection lists or try to create a new one I'm presented only with the All Resources icon but no actual server resources. This makes it sort difficult to add new server resources, although all the jobs work fine. The existing selection lists also show the resources they have when you look at "View Selection Details". So the lists works, though you can't add anything by browsing.

Another problem thats probably related is that when I choose "Manage user defined selections" to program crashes to desktop.

I've already tried repairing the installation and reindexing the catalogs and some other small fixes on the web but with no success.

Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

I've attached images of the error message.

System information: backup exec 2010 R3 x64. Server 2008 R2 x64.

  • Have you tried deleting & recreating the logon account...

Under Tools - Backup Exec Services - Service Credentials - Enter the Service Credentials , verify if the appropriate account used ?
Also, under Network - Logon Account, is the appropriate account used ?

Also, do you see any error under the System and/or Application logs ?

  • Hi,

Have you tried repairing the BEDB using BEutility and updating to the new backup server name?

    Thanks!

  • This is usually a lack of required persmissions against either the Backup Exec System Logon Account otr the Backup Exec Service account

As such please make sure these accounts are Domain Admins with

    - Logon as a service

    - Act as part of the operating system

    - Create a token object

    - Manage Auditing and Security Log

    - Backup FIles and Directories

    - Restore Fiels and Directories

    - Logon as a batch job

    EDIT: Useful link http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH136148

  • @craigv

updating via beutility didn't help, im sorry to say.

    @colin

Im running backup exec with the domain administrator, so permissions shouldn't be a problem.

I thank you for your suggestions though.

  • Update. I also tried to set up a new service account with all specifed permissions etc, but the issue remained.

Finally a solution! A so simple too, though the error was confusing.

When I changed the System Account details under Network - Logon Accounts to better suit the new server everything suddenly works. Selection lists are fine and so are the  User defined selections.

    Thanks a lot!
