Serve 2008R2, Symantec Backup exec 2012, tapeinst.exe drivers cause device manager errors

We cannot get tapeinst drivers to allow the device manager to say it's okay.

  • tapeinst.exe is just to install the Symantec driver.  If there is a problem with the hardware connection to the tape drive/library, tapeinst.exe will not help at all.  You need to get the tape drive/library vendor to get the devices recognised and working correctly in the Windows Device Manager.  After that, you can use tapeinst.exe to install the Symantec driver.

tapeinst.exe is also removed in BE 2014.  It is no longer needed.

  • Just a correction. Tapeinst.exe is no longer needed only if BE 2014 runs on a Windows 2012 or higher OS. If it runs Win 2008 R2 as the OP does, tapeinst can be used to install Symantec device drivers.
