Storage Error

Dear All,

I have BackUp server with these configration:

Windows Server 2008, Symantec BackUp Exec 2012 VRAY Edition

& Tape Drive:

HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 AutoLoader LTO3

Error Which i am facing the problem:

(Server:) Backup Exec was unable to initialize and communicate with the device \\.\Tape0 (Access is denied.). Click the link below for more information on how to diagnose the problem.

I am trying following solutions but issue is not resolve:

  1. Completely Shutdown the Main Server & Tape Drive than Firstly run the Tape Drive and start the server
  2. Reinstall Tape Drive Driver
  3. Run HP Library and Tape Tool and getting this error ( The Device scan failed to find all the library drives for at least one library) check to make sure all library drives are connected to host computer

  • Reinstall Tape Drive Driver

Please use the Microsoft drivers and not the HP drivers.  Please delete the HP drivers when uninstalling them so that the HP drivers do reinstall themselves automatically.

Changing drivers is also likely to resolve your "Backup Exec was unable to initialize and communicate with the device \\.\Tape0 (Access is denied.)." error.

Your screenshot "BackUP_Excec_Error.jpg" shows two tape drives.  Is that correct?  So you have one standalone tape drive and one tape drive in the autoloader?  If you do not have a standalone tape drive, then changing drivers may help there also.  You can delete the undesired standalone tape drive from the BE GUI.

  • In order to run HP LTT you need to stop the BE services...BE maintains a lock on the autoloader until the services are stopped. Then run the diagnostic utilities to check for a hardware problem.
Also make sure that Windows sees both the robotics and the tape drive. And also make sure your media server isn't virtualised and accessing the tape drive...this is totally unsupported.

    Thanks!
