Symantec Backup Exec 2014 - Creating Duplicate Tapes

How can I create an EXACT duplicate copy of a Tape (on another Tape) ?

I am using HP 1/8 g2 autoloader LTO5 with Backup Exec 2014.

I cannot see any such option in the application and I have never done this before.

Also there are no KB articles that suggest how to do this.

Any help would be appreciated!

  • This is expected.  As I said before, you cannot duplicate from tape to tape with only one tape drive.

If you cannot duplicate the backup set to disk, then I am afraid you are stuck.  If you need another tape, then the only way out is to do another backup of the same resource.

  • One way is to add a "Duplicate to Tape" stage to your existing backup definition.

The other way is manually and this KB should help - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO98918

  • Since you have only one tape drive, you need to duplicate the backup sets from the tape that you want to copy from, to your disk and then duplicate them to your second tape. To do tape-to-tape duplication, you need to have two tape drives
  • VJware and pkh

I do have one Tape Drive only. There isn't enough free space on the NAS to Copy the backup set on a disk and then back to Tape.

I tried manually performing a duplicate job for the Tape and creating a duplicate to Tape stage - didn't work.

    Below are the details:

Job ended: Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 1:54:42 PM
    Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe000e35d - The destination device that is selected is the same as the data source device. Select another destination device for this operation.
    Final error category: Job Errors
