symantec backup exec eval extender

hello friends

we are using backup exec 11d. and symantec websites does not show version . might be end of life cycle version.

backupexec.com gives newer version 2012...

need to know 2 things

is it possible to upgrade same backup verison to 2012? (os =windows 2003)

if new server is requid. hwo i can resotre 11d configurtion on this.

where i have to request for licenses (2012)... i got trial version (hope it has all the functionality available to test and ask my seniors to upgrade)

  • You cannot upgrade from BE 11d to 2012 directly. You have to upgrade to BE 12.5 or 2010 first and then to 2012. You can do in-place upgrde to 12.5/2010 and then to 2012 so no need to worry about configuration.

There are a lot of changes in BE 2012 compared to previous versions. With trial version, you can check all the functionalities and agents. Before using it in production, make yourself familier with the new product.

To purchase licenses contact any symantec reseller in your area...

  • You could request to local Symantec Sales representative or Symantec Partner your company deals with. Who can enable you another extension of eval key.

Or simply Install  it on another system  ( if evaluation is what you mean)

11d has entered in end of life product

it is better to get your environment upgraded. else you might end up in disaster situation with no support due to EOL product

this should be enough to get seniors attention to upgrade :-)

  • Hi

As you were using BE11d and you cannot find download for that version on Symantec but it only list the newer version as per your above line ,please check below link to download version

    BE 11 7170 Installer - https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=30140
    BE 11 7170 SBS Installer - https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=30403

Also would sugget before upgrade to BE2012 you need to test that on testing environment as it has lot of changes in terms of user interface and its working as compared to earlier version of backup exec and due to all this BE2012 is completely different.

So install it on a test server and used it different options and once you understand all of it you can upgrade from 11d to 12.5 or 2010 version and from there to BE2012

    Hope that helps.
