Take Tape Library Offline for Reboot

Hello,

I have a tape stuck in my IBM TS3200 tape library (Drive 2).  IBM support pages recommend a reboot of the library to see if the tape will be removed.

When using the web interface to initiate the reboot, it tells me "Verify that the device is Offline at the host prior to exercising any service funtions".  I've gone into my Backup Exec 2010 ver 13 software and clicked on Devices, TS3200, but I see that it says Online but I am unable to take it Offline.  I'm pretty new to this library and the BE software so please excuse me if this is a fairly simple function but I can't seem to find the solution.

IBM TS3200 3573 with 2 Drives.  BE 2010 ver 13 running on MS Server 2003

Thanks!

Mike

  • Hi,

You can stop the BE services and try the reboot from the web interface again. This should release the hold that BE has over the device.

    THanks!

  • I would recommend that you do this

    1) Power down both the tape library and the media server.

    2) Power up the tape library

    3) Power up the media server.

When you re-boot the tape library when the media server is up, sometimes the media server is unable to sense the status of the tape library and it will cause problems later on with your backups.

  • Thanks for the info.  Stopping the services worked.  I was able to then power cycle the IBM tape library.
