tape backup consistency

hi
i would to know if the backup verification is enough for backup consistency.
if the verification goes ok does this garantee i can get all my files back.
in fact i have scheduled extraction of few files after the backup to be sure that
the backup is good. is this necessary.
thanks!
  • If a Verify goes through successfully, it means the data on tape is the same as the data on disk, and bar a physical tape failure, you should be able to recover your data.

Actually, in BackupExec speak, this is not true

All that verify does is read the backup media  (tape, bkf file) and compute a checksum, then compare the checksum to  one written on the media.  If the checksums match, then the media "Verifies"

It doesn't really make any sense to compare backup media to disk media on a 24/7 server, since in all likelyhood at least some of the files will have changes between backup and verify
