Unable to create Deduplication folder

Newly installed dedup option. When trying to create the dedup folder, I get "An error occurred while creating the deduplication storage folder." The folder is not created. If I try to create it in an existing folder (D:\test), the existing folder is deleted when I try to create the dedup folder (leaving just D:).

No events in Windows logs. I have tried the suggestions in the link provided in the error, http://entsupport.symantec.com/umi/V-287-40960-39685. I am using a

dedicated account to create the folder. It has the necessary permissions. Why is this failing?

Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP2

Windows 2008 R2 Standard SP1

  • When I installed the dedup option, I mounted the wrong iso. Backup Exec is now at R3, but I used the iso from the original release. It seemed to install OK, no version checks, but it did not work.

Removed the dedup license and option, restarted, installed the dedup option with the R3 iso mounted. Created the dedup folder without issue.
