Underlying storage
Hi,
We currently use Server 2008 R2 with Backup Exec 15. The server is a HPE Proliant DL180 G6 with 12 drives; 2 in RAID 1 for OS, 5 in RAID 10 (5th is hot spare) for general backups and 5 in RAID 10 (5th is hot spare) for the Backup Exec dedupe folder.
Can we put the Backup Exec (moving to the latest one) dedupe folder on a volume provisioned with Windows Storage Spaces? We want to flatten the 2x 5 drive RAID 10's and put them all in a single Windows Storage Pool and then carve out volumes as needed. We will be changing 2 of the drives for SSDs to use read/write caching but won't be using any of the Microsoft native dedupe technologies available in Server 16/19.
We were planning to do this with HPE Smart Array P408i-p SR Gen10 controllers.
Thanks
