Update HotFix 164659 Failed to install

I keep getting alerts saying that Live Update failed to install hotfix 164659. What can I do to get it to install? I can't find anybody else that had this problem.

(Backup Exec 2010 R3, 32-bit, with installed updates of service pack 1, hotfix 167567, 171073, and 170962 on Windows server 2003)

Thanks

Stan Walker

  • Check the install log its located at C:\Doc& settings\Application Data\Symantec\Backup Exec\logs

The file name is bkupinst.htm, error message will appear in red at the bottom of the page.

You may also try to install the update manually, below is the download link for the same.

  • Thanks Amol! I found the install log and it said:

11-06-2011,18:01:31 : ERROR: Error 1706.No valid source could be found for product Symantec Backup Exec. The Windows Installer cannot continue.
11-06-2011,18:02:12 : V-225-136: The patch failed to install. Return code: 1603 ***To search for information about this error, click here

It seems like it couldn't locate the BE cd because, naturally, it wasn't in the drive. So I put it in the drive and ran live update. That worked. Hotfix 164659 is now installed.
