Upgrade Veritas Remote Agent 10.0.5484 to Symantec 12.5 rev 2213

Hi

I have a Windows 2000 SP4 server that has Veritas Backup Exec Remote Agent 10.0.5484 on it.

I need to upgrade the Remote Agent to the match the version of Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 rev 2213, that we now use, on our media server, a Windows Server 2008 SP1 machine.

Can I upgrade the Win 2000 server using the "Push install" via the Symantec Backup Exec Remote Installation app?  Any issues I may come accross?

Thanks

Trev

  • Hi Trev

After upgrading backupexec remote agent to 11d & above from earlier version like 10d I have seen issue with backup failing with function not implemented error even if you are able to install remote agent so please uninstall remote agent for 10d & then install 12.5 remote agent

    Please check link below

    Thank You

  • Hi

First thing is you will not be able to upgrade remote agent from 10d to 12.5 directly so either you can uninstall existing remote agent for 10d & then install 12.5 remote agent using push install or manual install

As from any backupexec version you can go up to 2 higher version that is from 10d you can upgrade to 12.0

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

  • On what bases are you making these statements?  These statements are definitely not true.

  • @TrevF - You can just push the BE 12.5 remote agents out to your remote server.  It should override the exsiting remote agent.

  • No, you're wrong there...you can upgrade to any higher version you want. Done that from 12.5 to 2010 R3 before. I have also gone from 11d to 2010 R3 RAWS agent.

  • Hi all

    Thanks for all the replies.

I took newSolutionBE's advice and uninstalled the old version of the Remote Agent.

I then stopped any SQL instances running on the server via Services.msc, restarted the server, stopped any instances of SQL again and then pushed out the newer version of Remote Agent via the BE media server, the server restarted because we also installed the AOFO. So after all that, everything worked flawlessly.

I may have done it the long winded way, but it worked.

I also have another issue to solve but thats for another post.
