Using BE2014 in Hyper-V

Hello everyone,

I just installed BE2014 in a VM client machine using Server2012R2 and discovered that I am not able to see my USB RD1000 disk from the BE storage. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

  • Do you see USB RD1000 in the Windows Device Manager?

Backup Exec will show the device only if its detected by Windows.

  • There you go, BE will not show the device untill the VM detects the hardware.

Due to these kind of issues its not rececommended to install Backup Exec on a VM.

  • In your case the issue is not with BE, its your VM which is not detecting the hardware.

You will face similar issues with BE15 too.

  • ...does Hyper-V even support passing that device through to the VM? Otherwise install BE on the Hyper-V host and you shouldn't have an issue.

    Thanks!
