Using past Primary Keys

We have a backup from 2017 that was created with a different version and primary key then what we have available today. When we try to catalog the tape, we receive an error message basically indicating the previous primary key is required. We do not know the pass phrase, but we do have the *.dak file for this backup as it was exported and saved.  Is there any way to import or associate this key with our current version which is 21.2.  If we go to manage keys it only allows for the creation of new ones.

Is a new install is performed can this key be used?

Thank you, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You cannot use your existing BE Server.

You would need to install a new BE Server on a separate machine then restore the BEDB with the correct .bak and apply the .dak to give you the encryption key.  You can then catalog and restore the old backup.

If you know the passphrase used to encrypt the backup, you can use it to decrypt the backup set using your existing version.
