Using software compression cluster hyper v

Hello,

I try to use the software compression when backing up a cluster hyper on a NAS but no compression occurs. The size is exactly the same with or without compression.

How could we do to compress our data?

Thanks for help

Regards

  • I beleive when  backup is taken using Grt, all the files are backed up in native format and files are not compressed. I am sure if you trun of the GRT and run the backup you would get much Compression .

  • In the backup job properties, choose the option of  "software" compression... Are you comparing the size via the Backup Exec's UI or from the actual storage itself ?

Are you backing up any data such as images, media files, .cab, .zip etc ?

  • Hello,

I choose the option software compression and the size from the storage is the same.

I precise that i backup cluster hyper-v so this is vhd files

    Thanks for help

  • In the job log, do you see an entry for the compression ? If yes, what ratio does it display ?

  • Backup set summaries are different from both jobs...the first job does mention that it achieved a compression ratio of 1,8:1..

The first job says backed up 4 files in 5 directories, whereas the second one says backed up 69810 files in 13326 directories + Backup Exec has discovered and protected 'C:' on virtual machine 'TSBDX.VALOREM.COM'.

Was the C: excluded from first backup or was there any change in the backup selections ?
