View Media Contents BEX 2012

Unlike the previous versions Backup Exec 2012 does not seem to allow the viewing of contents on the tape.

Previously i was able to 1) run a restore job and view media contents & 2) right click on the tape, restore (this would show contents)

Does anyone know how this is now done on 2012? cant seem to find an option. I want to simply look within specific tapes.indecision

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Ans

You are right as like earlier version when you select resource you can see the associated tape in BE 2012, If you want to know what tape it is using , you need to go to particular server for which you want to restore data , then in that on right hand side look for backup set, once you go to backup set look which date you are looking to restore data for.

Then once you find the particular backup set please double click on it to see it properties & you will see catalog.xml in it please search for the cataog.xml in catalog folder of backupexec & when you search this please open it in notepad or IE & you will see the tape which was used to do backup. Accrodingly you can find the tape

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

  • You can go to the Storage tab, click on the tape and see the backup sets on that tape.  However, you would not be able to restore from the Storage tab.  This will be implemented in the next release of BE.

For this release, you need to go to the Backup and Restore tab, click on the server and then select the backup set that you want to restore.

  • i dont want to restore any data - i just want to search a tape and check the data....

"This feature will return in the next release of BE2012."

    Bad decision to remove this....

    Thanks for all your replys.

    Ans:

As said above , my comments will help to find out tape which used for backup so if you want to find the tape & dont which tape has what information in mean while it will help you to get that information as it will be catalog.xml file for that backup set.

    Thanks

  • Long way for a shortcut though....thought they wanted to simplify tasks...strange!

    Thanks again

  • Hi

Yes it is long way ,but then when you dont know what tape to use , may be keep this way in mind which would help you
