VSS Error using Backup Exec for Exchange Backup to Disk

This is the error I get

"Error category    : Resource Errors
Error             : e000031b - Microsoft Exchange Server 2003/2007 supports snapshot technology for entire storage groups only. Snapshots of individual
databases are not supported. Update the backup job and try again.

Backup to Tape works fine. Backup to disk is generating this error.

    Hi,

     

    Do the following:

    1. run: vssadmin list writers and make sure all VSS writers are stable and running.

    2. Make sure you're not using AOFO when backing up the Information Store.

    3. Make sure BE 2010 is fully patched with SP1 (for either R1 or R2) and then any other subsequent patches.

    Thanks CraigV,

    One more item to check was this exchange server at one time had SQL running on it and it caused the VSS writers to look for that instance of SQL first. This caused the VSS writers to time out. Once I removed all traces from the registry of the old SQL install it worked like a champ.
