Windows Server 2012

Dear Symantec,

Microsoft Windows Server has been released on 4. September 2012 and you still dont have a Backup Exec Version compatible with it????

Guys, this is a really long time!

There have been betas and RCs from Microsoft, you had enough time to test and develope.

In August or September there will be the release of Windows Server 2012 R2. How long will we have to wait for a compatible Backup Exec version then?

I would have expected more and a much better customer support from Symantec...

You even dont have Windows Server 2012 listed in your operating system list in this forum!

  • Hello Stegerius,
We understand your concern and Symantec is doinf its best to catch up with support of Windows 2012 and Windows 2012 R2 in future.
Symantec has already started with the Beta program for BE 2012 SP2 which will have support for Windows 2012 included in it. You will be able to install BE Remote agent on Windows 2012 server and perform a backup of it. Please note that installing Backup Exec 2012 on Windows 2012 is still out of scope of SP2.

Please register for the Beta program to get the Beta release of BE 2012 SP2 at the following link:

    https://symbeta.symantec.com/callout/?callid=52801D5ABA034CC18A15C8E8E5CB2F99

You will also get more information about new platforms that are added in the support.

    Thanks,
    -Sush...

  • Hi,

This has been a known issue for a long time now...nothing new. Symantec have acknowledged this, and are addressing it...see below as these are pinned to the forum and would be seen as soon as you access the BE section:

You can read up on those blogs above.......

    Thanks!

  • The Link is not working.

"The page you are attempting to access is unavailable."

  • I know that this is a long known issue.

In my eyes, it is a too long known issue.

Our company is Symantec partner and we are selling your products!

And we are more than disapointed.

Our customers want to migrate to Server 2012 and they also dont understand, why this is taking such a long time.

  • ...correction, you're selling "their" products...I am not a Symantec employee. Read the blogs...they explain in detail why/what/how etc.

    Thanks!

  • Could you try to open the link again on some other machine? I just confirmed that the link is correct and its up and running.

    Thanks,

  • Stegerius we do understand that we have been way behind our competetion in supporting Server 2012. There have been a lot of changes since in Symantec Management over the last few months and we are driving Backup Exec to improve the quality.

The news about Server 2012 is that we had a successful Beta during the last month or so. The registrations are now closed. We are expecting the final public release before end of July 2013. Having said that, I don't have the exact date yet.

Stay tuned on the blogs mentioned by others before me. As soon as we go live with the final release the Announcements will be made in those blogs and on Twitter.

  • The much awaited Service Packs to add support to Server 2012 and VMWare 5.1 are released.
