Write protect tab on the LTO tapes

I appreciate any help.

Can the backup exec 2014 software (or any version) physically move the write protect tab on the tape (when in the drive)?

Because we are not sure how the tab is sometimes in the write protect position, when we never use the tabs to write protect the tapes.

    There is no tape drive or robotic library that I know of that can move the write protect tab on a tape cartridge.  If the hardware cannot do it, then the software cannot direct the hardware to do it.

    The write protect tabs must be moved by a human, either accidentally or deliberately.
