Requirement to be able to install Veritas Cluster
Hello,
I would like to know if this is possible to install Solaris 11 + Oracle and a couple of DB and then, at a later time, create install veritas and create a cluster with a second identical server which will be the secondary/passive cluster member?
In other word, is is mandatory to create the cluster before we install Oracle on top?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
Yes it is possible however any specific reason you don't want to install VCS first ?
If this is somehow your requirement though, You can first setup your machine with databases & later install the product & bring the database under VCS control. During the installation of SF product, you can generate the responsefile & use this responsefile for installation on second node. OR you can use the "installonly" option on second node so that only product is installed & later you can run "installsf -configure" command to configure it & couple it with first node of cluster.
Refer below section for using responsefile

Also, I would recommend to go with latest version of software i.e 6.1 as it supports solaris 11. You can find the supported oracle matrix in below link

If you were not already planning to do so, you can save a lot of effort down-the-road by installing SFHA before installing the Oracle environment and database so that you can place your databases' data files onto disks assigned to a disk group designated for hosting your database. That way you will already have the storage-level infrastructure set up to support moving that database between hosts (without having to later migrate your database data files onto a shared storage infrastructure).
All things considered, if you already have the SFHA 6.1 software (which you can get at any time from the Symantec trial-ware site), you can save a LOT of effort by installing SFHA on the one system that you already have, and either configure it as a "one node cluster" or simply not configure the VCS components until you are ready.
