  • .ost files are set as default global excludes and not backed up.

Ideally, I would not want to backup the .ost file as I would prefer the file to sync with my mail server and recreate itself instead of restoring it. Is there any specific reason for backing it up ?

  • Hello,

Yes, the reason is because I have Exchange 2013 and my emails files are storaged in .ost format, and in this moment GTR functionality isn't avaliable for this version.

Some idea from backup the emails?

    Thank you in advance!

  • The term "GRT" functionality is actually applicable to another Symantec product ( Backup Exec).

SDLO doesn't backup the complete Exchange IS and it backs up only the user's .pst

If using only .ost (which is actually only the local copy), then consider backing up the actual mailbox data which is stored on the exchange server. From the user perspective, its easier to rebuild this .ost if the mailbox data on the exchange server exists.

  • Hey user,

I have a solution for your problem, simply use an OST file recovery tool > open the software > add the ost file > select a file format like pst, pdf, etc > choose the saving location > export the files that's it.
