Clearwell with or without EV?

I have a client I am working with whose legal department needs a more robust E-Discovery tool like Clearwell.

Does Clearwell require Enterprise Vault to search Microsoft Exchange servers 2007 and 2013 or can it operate without EV?

    To provide the full picture here

     

    Clearwell provides end to end eDiscovery needs. Enterprise Vault provides you with and Information Management solution. They dint have to be used together but together to do offer a complete robust solution that spans from Information Management through the complete EDRM process to Production

     

    If your not worried about saving costs on your primary storage for your file servers and email servers and if your not worried about capturing some of the email meta-data such as BCC recipients as well as DL membership information at the time emails were sent then you don't need an EV solution you can just use Clearwell

     

    however if you are in need of an information management system that will provide BCC and expanded DL information as part of your eDiscovery then Enterprise Vault with Clearwell will provide all those needs in a complete package from one vendor.

    We are a vendor and have used Clearwell's for years without utilizing EV.   EVjust helps with the storage and makes collection easier.

    You don't need EV for eDiscovery from a legal perspective. You need EV from a best practice IT perspective. While EV can certainly provide eDiscovery elements, it is truly an IT tool to maximize agility, efficiency, and rigor as well as minimize cost, facilities (read hardware), and complexity.

    Clearwell has a connector for Exchange that is independent of the connector for Enterprise Vault. Please take a look at this DOC6876 as this gives a bit more information.
