5 to 5 SP6

Hi there,

I am looking at updating our vault 5 to 5 with SP6. I have downloaded the update (78Mb) and read the readme etc documentation.

It says in there: You must run the Configuration Program after you install Enterprise Vault 5.0 SP6. For instructions on how to do this, see the Installing and Configuring Enterprise Vault manual.

I have looked to where is say however its not all clear to me. is this config needed as other posts on here i have read seem like its just the install. Also do i need to update anything on out exchange servers and the clients?

Thanks for your time, my end goal is to update the exchange to SP2 after all this, but i understand SP6 is needed first for this.

    You need to run the config program from Start-programs-Enterprise Vault-Configuration so that it can run the DB update scripts and DCOM security configuration updates. You only need to do this from one server in the site.

    If you are also using the OWA extensions then you should install the new versions on your Exchange FE/BEservers as well and rerun the configuration. You really want to make sure that you understand this process first otherwise you could end up with a support call.

    We do have a front end exchange running owa, thanks for that. So i must run the setup.exe to install sp6, then run the config program, and then install the extensions on the owa which are in with the sp6 zip file i belive.

    Thanks for your help, is there any doumentation that does this in steps that you know of?

    Once you have installed EV you will find an 'Installing and Configuring' chm/pdf file that has sections on OWA.

    once i have installed? sorry i mis-understand. we already have 5.0 installed do you mean after the update install?

    i have looked through the documentation but it simply tells me about settings vault up from strach. i only wish to update using the service pack patch. I see the part about the DCOM settings and how to update these after the update, i cannot find anything on how to update the exchange servers. i am also assuming that the user extensions are installed by simply running the install MSI on all the users computers, which i can do from group policy in AD

    thanks for your help, i'm struggling to find intructions on this update rather than a new install.

    By 'Installed' I meant upgraded to SP6. The installation for the OWA extentions changed significantly from the base V5 to the SP6 release.

    You should be able to find the same document on the SP6 CD/extract. I just suggest that you read through the section on configuring the OWA extension so that you are comfortable with what you will need to do to upgrade.

    As for the MSI, that should be sufficient.
