Ad-hoc archiving for a disabled mailbox

Hi

The environment is Exchange 2010 SP3 + EV 10.0.4. Is it possible to trigger a script before we disable a mailbox during the separation process to archive all the mails to Enterprise Vault?

This would be very helpful for our operations Team. They frequently serve the requests from business to provide access to separated staffs mails for business continuity. In this case, they provide access to the separted staff archives. However there are some mails (those are not eligible for archive as per policy) might be stored in the mailbox and was disabled during the separation process.

or any other better ideas to handle in such situtation?

Thanks

  • yep very doable. many companies have something like this in place. you create a new provisioning group called "leavers" and create a corresponding AD group or OU which the account can be added to or moved to. then create a new mailbox archiving policy with 0 day settings and the additional options for what you want to archive and assign it to the provisioning group. make sure this new provsioning group is at the top of the list (#1 in rank) so it applies over the other ones.

  • As Andrew says, there is a very helpful post here - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/two-sure-fire-ways-deal-company-leavers - that deals with exactly that.
