Add more EV indexing space

EV904. Long story short...

Our index locations on the EV journaling server are running out of space. I have had the storage team provision me additional LUNs. I need to instruct EV to use these new locations for its indexing purposes. And do I tell EV to stop using the original locations, or is there some way to instruct it to use those LUNs until they're full and then continue on with the new free space?

I can't seem to locate how to perform this. If and when I find it, I'll post the information here. Thanks for any insight!

    if you're on EV 10 then you can close the old indexing locations and add new ones.

    if you're on 9 or earlier then you need to move the old indexing locations to where you have more room. if you just add more locations the old ones will still continue to grow. check out these articles for EV 9 or earlier:

    By the way ... it's not particularly hard to move index locations to new locations....

     

    The IndexRootPathEntry table in the Directory Database has a list of your index locations in it... make a nice spreadsheet with each location in it, along with the size/number-of-files (just right click on each folder in Windows Explorer and bring up the properties and wait a while).

     

    Pick 'some' to target...

     

    But EV Indexing in backup mode ...  or at the VERY least that particular index location.

     

    COPY the data to a new location.

    Update SQL

    Rename the old folder..

    Take EV out of backup mode

    Observe for a few days to make sure there are no 'odd' issues.

    Then delete the old folder.

     

    You can get more complex and work out some of the archives that have indexes in the indexroot that you decide to move, then after the move you can do searches on those archives and verify that they still work (hence using the new location)... but that's a story for another day.
