Archive Explorer is not showing any items

We're running EV 9.0.1, Outlook 2007 on XP, full Outlook add-in v9.0.1.1097.

I can successfully see my archived mail items via "search vaults" and "browser search", but nothing comes up when via "archive explorer".

When I do a Ctrl-Shift-click on one of the EV buttons and select "Vault Information", in the system information box, it says "HTTP connection failed - http://<fqdn of ev server>/EnterpriseVault (status 0x56)".

Do these 2 issues have anything to do with each other? How can I get archive explorer working?

  • Not necessarily. When you open the archive explorer, is the page simply empty, or do you have the structure with your archive at the left and it is simply empty when you click on it?

Also check the EV eventlog if you get any errors while you access the archive explorer.

  • Hi,

    This one perhaps?

Offline Archive Explorer does not display contents of folders
On Windows XP, if you upgrade to the Enterprise Vault Add-in for Outlook 2010, folders may appear to be empty when viewed using offline Archive Explorer.

    Workaround
To fix this issue, run the following command after upgrading the Enterprise Vault Add-in :
    %windir%\system32\regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll

  • Hi,

I managed to fix the Archive Exlorer issue by simply un-installing and re-installing the Outlook add-in and rebooting the PC.

But I've still got the issue with the "http connection failed" message in the EV Information dialouge box.

I've also now noticed in Outlook that when I right-click the mailbox->Properties->Enterprise Vault tab, there's is no information appearing regarding the EV settings.

  • You can ignore the error "HTTP Connection failed" which you get in Vault Information. I have seen this error message even in my test lab but everything works fine such as vault cache etc.

As in this case everything is working fine, you can ignore the http connection error. You will still be able to access the URL shown in error http://evservername/enterprisecvault from Internet browser which is used for most of the EV operations.

  • Hi RahulG,

When you say that I can ignore the http connection failed error message, are you saying this as an employee or representative of Symantec? It is extremely poor if a product is released to market containing such a flaw. If you buy a new car and a few hours after driving it away from the dealer a big red X appears on the dashboard telling you that a component has failed and you phone the car dealer/manufacturer and you are told "you can ignore this - the car is still drivable isn't it?", would you honestly be satisfied with this response?

Also, do you know why no information appears when I click-on the Enterprise Vault tab in the Outlook mailbox properties?

    Thanks,

    George.

  • George,

This is a peer to peer forum.  There are some Symantec employees on here but they will be identified by a badge beside their name.

The previous poster was just letting you know that even though he has seen that message it has not caused an loss of functionality in his experience.  If you want an official Symantec response you can open a case with support.  Suggestions posted here should not be considered an official Symantec response but rather a community of peers trying to help each other out.

It is also customary to mark a solution once the original question is solved and then open a new thread for new questions instead of adding on to a thread.  This helps the community if a few ways.  Firstly, if someone has the same issue they can see the solution.  It also gives you the ability to reward helpful contributors by marking their post as the solution.

    Tony
