Archive Usage Limits

We are currently keeping everything forever, and would like to know some details about using archive usage limits.  Specifically, what will happen if a user's archive is 2GB and we set the limit to 1GB?  Will it just stop archiving any more data, or will it reduce the archive size by purging items?

    It will not purge the items.
     
    You should not be able to add any items.

    On a side note, the only way that items are removed from an archive is either by means of expiry or if a user deletes them himself.
