Archiving Calendar Items

Recently I needed to use EV to archive calendar items so that we can reduce the size of calendar folder size in Outlook. Using EV policy we strip the attachments and we do not archive unexpired appointments. However, we are experiencing a couple of rather weird issues on calendar archiving:

  1.  From AE, certain calendar items we see a duplicate entries for the same item sometimes we see three copies of the same exact items.
  2. From AE the date for calendar items are not matching the date that shows in Outlook. For some reasons the date in AE is two days behind of the date in Outlook-Calendar

I am aware calendar archiving is not exactly the best option to archive and it’s causing various issues but I wonder if any of you experienced these issues that I am having.

  • What version of EV is being used?
The dates for calendar items, Calendar items archived in EV2007 were based on the Archived Date...
So if you had an item from 2012, but archived it today on EV2007 , it would display as 11/04/2013

In EV8 onwards it then uses the Create Date of the calendar item.
So if you create a calendar item on say 01/01/2013 but the event is 01/08/2013, it would display as 01/01/2013.

There was an idea that was posted to have it reflect the day of the actual event, and was on the roadmap, this was way back in 2011 though, i'm not sure if its made it in to any versions of EV10 or in the EV11 beta etc as I honestly don't pay that much attention to calendar items

As for the duplicates, it could be that you're in an After Backup Scenario with a pending shortcut timeout and what occured is the item wasn't backed up in time, the item was reverted and then re-archived, and thus a duplicate got created

However duplicates from items that had been cancelled was resolved quite some time ago, so EV itself would have to be fairly old for that to be the exact issue

  • We are on EV 10.0.3.

Correct the date in AE is the date the item created not the event taking place. which this date is causing confusing by users.

I have provided a screen shot of a few duplicated items which they are the international holiday dates that inserted by Outlook at the time. I think due to the fact that these bank holidays are kind of recursive which they repeat each year then for some peculiar reason EV archive each entries.
