Can archived items be modified?

 Hi there,

I know the answer is No.

I’m trying to find ANY document that says that items archived in Enterprise Vault cannot be modified. (I know they can be deleted and restored). A customer is requesting written confirmation from Symantec that this is not possible, they just won't accept our answer. we haven't gone down the path of raising a case with Symantec.

I’ve found something on the EV Guide for Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 Users, but it refers to virtual vault

“You may be able to view the contents of shared archives and delegate archives in your Virtual Vault, but you cannot modify the contents.

I’m after a similar statement. Can you please assist?

We are runnning EV 10.0.2

  • Well, this is the closest I've found so far.

    From http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH69118

    2.  User Actions.

       Modifying\Saving an already archived item

When an item is retrieved, the full item resides in a temporary PST associated with the active Outlook profile.  Modification or Saving of this message in its retrieved state will allow a new message object to be created in the mailbox.  This new message would then be subject to the same archiving rules associated with the mailbox utilizing the new creation date.

Might not be enough for the client though. Its clear from the text that the original item is not modified and a new item is created.

I reckon we'll need to log a ticket with support on behalf of the client. :-(

  • Was anything else needed on this issue, or can one of the posts be marked a solution in order to close the issue?

  • Oh, thanks... the customer accepted the quote from my post on 17/04 as good enough. I'm glad we didn't have to go any further with this.
