Can it break something to just like that delete domain and tasks?

Hi,

About this article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH68400

Can it break something to just like that delete domain and tasks? Or can that be done without any possibility of nasty problems from doing it? Something I should consider first before doing it?

  • If you simply delete the tasks and items are awaiting backup, then you can create a situation where there will be records in the database which will not be able to process as the old task does not exist. If you allow this condition to persist, then you can cause a backlog in the watchfile/journalarchive tables which will eventually cause the processing of these tables to slow down.

Not so much 'break' as a slow, painful death ;)

N.B these will not be evident in the A1 queue - you will need to check for items awaiting backup also.

  • Not really !! Just before deleting the task make sure there not items in the MSMQ queues, specially a1 queue.

Also when you delete the Task for exchange , make sure you delete the queues for that task . because when u create the task again it will create new queue, and some time it creates confusion .

  • keep in mind your users wont be able to access their archived data from outlook until you readd the targets and recreate the tasks

  • Thanks for your excellent points, I'm still hoping I don't have to do that deletion but if it comes to that, I'll make sure to note your advices. Thank you.
