Cannot access vaulted mails in secondary mailboxes

Hi,

We're using the old version 7.5 of EV, which is due to be upgraded later this year.

Right now however, we have a problem where users cannot access vaulted mails, in other mailboxes than their primary. The users have full mailbox access and have also been granted permission to the archive for the mailbox, in the EV Management Console.

If I double-click a vaulted email, a bar with the text "This item is being restored by Enterprise Vault. Click here to view the original item" appears in the mail header, but nothing happens and only the stub body ("This message has been archived") is displayed.

If I select the email and click on the "Restore from Vault" button, the icon changes slightly (from  to ) but nothing further happens. If I repeat, the following error is displayed:

"Unable to restore because you have not selected any archived items. Please select at least one archived item and try again"

If the mailbox is opened as the primary mailbox in Outlook, vaulted items open instantly and can be restored without problems. Users tell me this has been working before.

To be honest, I'm new to EV to I don't have much clue where to look.

Any ideas would be much appreciated! smiley

  • Try this

If you're on Outlook 2007 go to
Tools -> Options -> E-Mail Security -> check "Allow Scripts In Shared Folders"

If you're on Outlook 2003 go to
Tools -> Options -> Other (Tab) -> click the Advanced Options button then check "Allow Scripts in shared folders"

  • And if that doesn't work, grab a client trace with full logging, and share it here.

  • Thanks for your prompt replies.

@JesusWept2: I don't have "E-mail Security" under "Tools", "Options" in Outlook 2007. Instead I found it in "Tools", "Trust Center", "E-mail Security". The instruction for 2003 though, were spot on.

    Works like a charm now.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks! I was messing around with GPO's, to enable this.

I opened our default policy under Policies, Exchange, Mailbox. Then the Advanced tab, selecting Outlook from the "List settings from" combobox.

How long before an EV policy change takes effect and what, if anything, can I do to force it?

  • If you change the EV policy then do a mailbox synch, restart Outlook, it should then be in effect.  If it's not ..  grab a client trace and share.

I'm not sure what you'll see if you have a GPO which forces things to OFF will do when compared with an EV policy which tries to set this to ON.
