Cannot connect to the directory on computer '<hostname>'

What rights are necessary to allow other admins to connect to the Enterprise Vault admin console?  I want to delegate access to the console, but don't want to allow users to log in using the service account.  Users are members of the local "Administrators" group on the server and are delegated "Exchange Administrator" on the Exchange Server that this particular vault server is managing.  When they attempt to log in, they get an error:

"Cannot connect to the directory on computer '<hostname>'"

<hostname> is the correct Directory server, and when I log in with my credentials (domain admin level and Exchange Full Administrator), I have no problems whatsoever.

  • The Directory is stored in the SQL server, so it may be that it is SQL permissions they need.  Is SQL set for NT  Authentication?  You might want to create a group and add the appropriate permissions to the SQL server.
  • In this deployment case, SQL server and the Vault server are the same box, and the users to whom I wish to delegate this task have indirect membership in the local Adminstrators group.  It is using Windows authentication, and I did go ahead and grant them permissions on the Directory database earlier today.  They're 6 hours ahead, so I won't hear anything until tomorrow.  Thanks!

  • DTRACE MMC and repro the error. What do you get? DO you get a 0x8007005 hex code error?
