Cannot delete archived items from Outlook and Archive Explorer

We are using EV 7, and all of the sudden deletion is not working.  When we tried to deleted from Outlook without open up the email, it said "Access is denied.  Do you want to just delete the shortcut?"  When we opened the email and tried to delete,  it said  "Could not process the selected items.  Reason: A server error has occurred."  Tried to delete from Archive Explorer, but the delete option is greyed out.  However, the deletion works if we go to Outlook, from the Menu bar go to Tools, Enterprise Vault, Delete from Vault.  It is really strange!  Nothing has been changed on the server side recently.  Could it be something on the desktop side such as Outlook, IE, settings?  How do we change it back so that deletion works?  Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

  • Check on the EV server that your site settings allow users to delete from archives.

    Check on the EV server that the retention category allows users to delete.

     

    The message that is returned is MUCH better after you go to EV 2007 SP 4 or later.

  • Thank you for the advice.  For no apparent reason, deletion is working again.  Delete option is not greyed out anymore.  We have done nothing to the server last night, except running the regular backup.  Very strange!
