Clarification on running FSAUtility with the caution statement in the EV Utilities Guide
Hi All,
Just wondering what the consensus is regarding this statement in running the FSAUtility. This is directly out of the EV Utilities Guide.
"To run FSAUtility
1 Log on to any Enterprise Vault server with the Vault Service account. If you
use the utility to process a Windows file server, the account must also have
local administrator permissions on the file server.
Caution: You must log on to the Enterprise Vault server locally. You cannot
run FSAUtility if you log on remotely."
I have tested this using remote desktop console and it worked fine, just wondering why the caution statement and potential risks of not doing it locally on the EV Server versus Remote Desktop Console.

Personally I'd check with either support or your account manager. Logging in via Terminal Services/RDP is the de-facto standard now, and I don't see why you'd need to login 'locally'. Perhaps all it means is that you cant run FSAUtility remotely from your workstation .. Oh and tell Symantec the phone is ringing, and it's the 1990's calling :)

This was the response from Support, makes sense.
Essentially, the warning is in there because many RDP sessions will close out the profile when they are disconnected, so if you're running a longer FSAUtility command, it will close the command window before it finishes. You want to be sure that profiles on that server are not set to close after RDP disconnects, as well as being sure to use the /admin option via RDP so that it's using the primary server admin console for the session.
As long as you take those precautions, you can run FSAUtility through RDP without any issues.
