E Vault clients have OST files that grow up to 20GB

We believe this has something to do with E-Vault, we are using 7.5 EV currently and we don't have the option to upgrade at this time. Any idea what could be causing this?

  • I understand. Basically, Enterprise Vault does exactly the opposite, decrease the size of the mailbox and, in consequence, the OST file. Enterprise Vault doesn't add anything to the mailboxes other than a hidden message (when the mailbox is enabled for archiving) and EV shortcuts during the archiving process (which are 4KB in size). You might need to review one of the OST files with the users to determine what could be causing this issue. I do not think that Enterprise Vault could be causing this behavior.

    I hope this helps!

  • What version of Windows on the client?

What version of Outlook on the client?

How big are the users mailboxes?

How long before the OST file gets that big?

Is it one user or all users?

Have you got offline vault deployed?

  • 7.5 is all I know

    Outlook is 2007

The users mailboxes can range from 500MB to 6GB

I am not sure of the duration it takes to get to that size.

It's not one or all, it's rather sporadic.

    No offline vault is deployed

  • If you have users where the Outlook OST files are growing out of control, then you need to verify if Enterprise Vault is archiving data correctly. Have you checked the archiving tasks? Are they running properly? What about the mailbox policies > archiving rules settings? Do you see any errors in the event log? We need a little more of information to assist you.

  • In my knowledge, I have not seen any case whrere EV causes OST to grow. I think you should also look at MS suggestion as below.

  • I agree, I jut don't run the system on that end. I was hoping it could trigger something. I will try to get what information I can.
