E Vault Plug in - cache folder path must be moved

I'm deploying E Vault plug in on citrix environment then need to change the default path used to install Vault plug in. By default it is installed on %apps%\local\KVS\Enterprise Vault but I need to change this default path or move it after installation to the user home profile we dedicated for each individual user on central SAN storage.

The reason is that 20 virtual servers are used to allow users to connect but they make a login session on the first available server that can be different every day. When the cache file will bicoming big, I can't accept users generating huge files on logon server to save space & performance.

Thanks anyone having a solution on my issue.

  • You know that Virtual Vault etc isn't supported on Citrix, right?

  • Hello ypalmas,

For Terminal Services and Citrix peeseantation servers, Vault Cache and Virtual Vault implementations are not supported. In addition, there are some issues to be aware. Please, take a look at this technote for more details:

Support for Terminal Services and Citrix Presentation servers
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35595

    I hope this helps.

  • Thanks for your quick reply Rob. I'm coordinator on this task to ensure a deployment in Europe but not having enough knowledge on how is supported or not in Citrix side, just charged to deploy the client plug in. The server and associated rules is managed by our application team based outside. I tested wih one account and can see it's working.

    Regards

  • The difficulty you will get is 'what happens when you call SYMC support?'.

It states in the Compatibility Guide it is not supported to run VC/VV on Citrix.

So when you call Support and say 'Hey we've got the problem with VV on Citrix, where XYZ'...  what do you expect will happen?

    They will either:

a/ Put the phone down on you

b/ Expect an awful lot of effort on your part to reproduce whatever the perceived issue outside of the Citrix environment - and that might well be just about impossible, depending on the issue.

I'm not sayig don't do it.  I'm saying go into it with your eyes WIDE open with regards to the supportability stance from Symantec.  You might even want to get your trusty Symantec Account Manager to put something in writing with regards to what will or won't be covered.

It's the same sort of situation with things like storing PST files on network shares and accessing them remotely. Yep, people do it. Call Microsoft with an issue relating to it, and your ground suddenly becomes soft, squishy, and a bit smelly ;-)

  • have you considered things like if user A logs on to citrixserver1 and manually archives items into VV, but closes outlook before a sync happens (the item will now not exist in there mailbox and will only exist in the VV on citrixserver1), but then user A then logs onto citrixserver2 and cannot find the items and logs a call with the helpdesk ?

Or the helpdesk resets the users citrixprofile on citrixserver1 the data is lost.

    just a thought.....
