Easy upgrade from EV 6 to 9? Possible?

I hope that this is a YES and that someone can provide a few pointers please.  

We have a single site with one EV server, running 6.4  This needs to be upgraded (to get rid of old hardware) to either 8.4 or 9, but in order to do this, we need to follow a messy upgrade path.  Since we ideally want a new server, it seems that we'd have to build the new server with 6.4, perform a DR recovery, then upgrade to 7 - 7.5 - 8 then finally 9.

It seems long winded?  We don't mind if we lose reporting config/data or indexes.  We are only concerned with the integrity of the vault store and the relationship with shortcuts/stubs currently in the mailboxes.  Indexes can be rebuilt and fortunately the estate is quite small.

Can anyone comment on the possibility of setting up the new EV server with the version we want (9.0) and simply migrating the SQL database and vault stores over?  Indexes can be rebuilt and the single EV server is only configured to vault for two exchange servers.

    A big part of the EV upgrade path has been updates and changes to the SQL databases. Those changes have never been cumulative, you've always had to take the long way around when upgrading beyond one major version.

    I'm afraid you will need to follow the upgrade path you described, if for nothing else to ensure the integrity of your data.

    Agreed you need to go from 6 - 7 - 7.5 - 8 - 9 

     

    If you are moving to new hardware I think it is best to upgrade on the existing hardware then perform a Data Only DR on the system to move it to the new hardware

     

    The steps for this are clearly outlined in the Admin guide and are tried and tested

    You need to follow the messy upgrade path, unfortunately.

    The only other option I can see would be an export/import of your data, so you would just build a new EV Server (completely new), and then export the data from the old to the new one.

    Or try TransVault or Procedo to add more products that can migrate archived data :)
