Email Shortcuts Missing/Disappeared

Hi,

We have EV 9 in our environment.  A user has lost alot of archived shortcuts.  They were there on Friday afternoon.  Come Monday morning and all gone! :(

Is there a quick solution for this, or will a restore need to be done back from Thursday night etc???

Thanks

  • The bug I was referring to was this one, even if you have shortcut expiry disabled
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH154632

However that would be if you base the expiry on Modification date (Send/Receive Date)
So if you have an email that was sent/received on 01/01/2010 and you archived it yesterday, Storage Expiry would deem that item to be expired there and then

but still to get the shortcuts back, you would have to open up the Vault Admin Console, right click Archives and go to Export Archive and then select the user and export out to a PST file (make sure to split the PSTs by retention category, which is one of the options)

Then ensure that the CFG file is located with the PST files and then import the PST Files back in to the archives and tell it to create the Shortcuts and to merge the folder structure, and this will recreate the shortcuts that have become missing

  • Sounds like you got some shortcut deletions going on. http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH73449

  • There was also a bug that affected shortcut deletion where just running storage exPiry in report mode would kill off the shortcuts The easiest way is to export to a PST, reimport the PST and choose to create shortcuts, but that will be for every single item (including ones that may have been deleted already by the user)
  •

@ MARK -  The shortcut deletion is set to 1 year.  The items were only archived about 2 weeks ago.

  • Oh and you may want to check to see if there are any rules on the folders such as Exchange Managed Folders for 2007 and 2010 that can delete particular types of email and email of certain ages and such , in Exchange 2003 and below this was handled by the Exchange Mailbox Manager process
