I have two questions.

There are two Exchange server in a single exchange domain and these server are located geographically different ares and MAILBOXs are on DAG. For a time in mailbox can be on location A then it jumps to Location B..  There is a single EV directory and two EV servers. Which would be best to deploy Ev site to avoid provisioning errors.

Second question is, what happens if an item is deleted in user archive on EV abount a three months a go and you wanna restore that single item..?? How to do it?

  • How many users are we talking about here? Less than 6000 mailboxes?

You would set an EV server to tagart the exchange servers by name (per server per task), in this case you would have two exchange mailbox archiving tasks one for each exchange server. When the DAG have failed over you just run the Provisioning task to update the users, EV will pick the active DAG and continue to function as per normal. Both EV tasks will be active but will only archive the active DAG exchange server.

If you have deleted a single message or messages from the user's archive (unless you have the recovery feature for EV enabled on the EV site settings, similarly to exchange, you can set it to 99 days max 'i think') otherwise you would have to build the whole EV environment in a DR network and then export the user's archive and then import back into the EV production environment. Yes for a single message you would have to build the entire EV environment.

  • Hi, All good apart from you dont have to re-run provisioning after a DAG failover.  Sorry CTEV, may even have been me that told you that ages ago ;-)

  • yes you do, either a manual run or the scheduled task run. Either way it has to be run to update the users. :-). if what you had told me is true then there a bug, as many of the ev setups that i have done for exchange 2010 DAGs had required provisioning task re-run.

  • Sorry KeyPlayer (on Page 6 in the doc attached) ;-)

The provisioning task is responsible for keeping the locations of mailboxes up to date, and is able to

update the targets list above in the mailbox archiving task. By default the provisioning task runs once a

day with the option to run twice a day. It is recommended that the provisioning task is scheduled to run

immediately prior to an archive run so the archive task has the most up to date information about the

    mailboxes it is processing.

  • Actually there is a directory and an EV dedicated for archiving on location A. But DAG sends user maibox to location B. So I'm gonna setup a EV for Location B but, shall I put that EV to existing Direcory ?

If I put it to exisiting directory then shall I adress is as sparate site or additional ev server in the same site doing archiving with different storage and fingerprint database?

If I put new EV for location B and join it in the same directory on Location A , "auto enable arhiving" may start archiving on any location!!!  User mailbox must be archived on orginal location .. How to deal with it?

  • You don't *have* to run the prov task, it's just recommended that you do otherwise you incur a costly lookup, so you're both right I suppose!
